About CEMEDE

CEMEDE was created on September 28, 2005 by:

  • Carmen Chahine, President, holder of a bachelor of Sciences from the American University of Beirut (AUB) and a postgraduate degree in Corporate Real Estate from Université de Solvay, Brussels,
  • Thierry Van Halteren, notary,
  • Gianpietro Armanetti: jurist, specialized in international law, and
  • Xavier Otte: Coordinator,
  • With the participation of Ayssar Arida, architect and urban planning consultant.
  • With the participation of Gaëtan Riat, consultant management

On the occasion of the Tenth Anniversary of the Barcelona Process, CEMEDE members felt it necessary to answer the call of the European Commission to strengthen neighboring ties between EU Member Sates and other Mediterranean countries covered by MEDA, the European development assistance program.

CEMEDE members, who share common European or Mediterranean origins, decided to gather their skills and expertise within the framework of CEMEDE to become part of the Barcelona Process.
CEMEDE’s objectives are:

  • participation in Euromediterranean exchanges and cooperation,
  • provision of development assistance, in particular, infrastructure development assistance, to Mediterranean and Near Eastern countries,
  • promotion and representation of micro, small and medium size businesses,
  • promotion of sustainable development and urban planning,
  • environment protection and improvement,
  • human resources development,
  • institutional development, organization of conferences, seminars and training workshops, and research, and
  • participation in tenders from the UE and other Euromediterranaen Sates and strengthening of relationships and dialogue between EU authorities and public authorities in Euromediterranean countries.
